La religiosa conciliar en España. Una aproximación a su construcción identitaria en tiempos del Vaticano II

Abstract

It is well known that the Second Vatican Council promoted a global transformation in Catholicism; nevertheless, the effects of this change on religious orders and congregations of nuns and sisters have not yet been investigated at any great depth. This article aims to shed light on this issue through the history of the Society of the Sacred Heart. Founded in the aftermath of the French Revolution, this highly successful congregation became the archetype for religious institutes for over a century beyond its creation. However, the end of the Second World War brought a new reality that forced the congregation to begin an extensive remodeling process inspired by the council decree Perfectae Caritatis. Mainly through oral sources, this article will analyse the identity construction of the conciliar woman religious, which was characterised by an updated understanding of the traditional vows of chastity, poverty and obedience.
