Abstract

The hospital of Argel for captives of any Christian confession was founded in 1612 by the Trinitarian 'calzados' Bernardo de Monroy, Juan del Aguila and Juan de Palacios. The one of Tunez was founded in 1722 by Francisco Jiménez. In 1662-67 brother Pedro de la Concepción restored the hospital of Argel and gave it fix rents, also in favor of that of Tunez. Both of them always depended on Castille Trinitarian province; they had a general administrator in Madrid. Local Islamic authorities protected them because ill captives were saned there and because they made redemptions eaiser and for an important quantity of money. There served and died about 40 male nurses brothers. The hospital of Argel was closed in 1816 and the one of Tunez in 1817.
