Abstract

The purpose of this article is the study of the profoundly edifying vision of Eleonor of Aragon, Queen of Cyprus (ca 1333-1416), given by the Fransciscan tradition, a vision which strongly contrasts with that transmitted by the Cypriot chronicler Leondios Makheras and his Italian translators, Francesco Amadi and Diomedes Strambaldi. For this purpose, the author examines the Franscican chronicles of Ángel Vidal, José Antonio de Hebrera, José Batlle and Jaime Coll, as well as some passages of Lo Chrestià, written by the Franciscan Francesc Eiximenis, Lo Somni, by Bernat Metge, and L'Espill, by Jaume Roig, works which deal with some events of the life of this peculiar Queen after his return to Catalonia in 1381.
