The Catholic English merchants in Madrid at the middle of the seventeenth century

The author identifies some of the most prominent merchants of English origin that lived in Madrid during the second and the third quarters of the seventeenth century that were Catholics. He pays special attention to the references provided by the notarial sources that prove that they were Catholics. He also informs about other features of their social profile and professional dedication. He informs about their role in the export wool trade, sales of imported merchandises, especially English cloths, and trade with wine from the Canary Islands, tobacco and fish, among other products. He also pays attention to their financial activities, namely credit to the Royal Treasury and loans to private persons.
