The article deals with the display of some twenty corpses of Salesian nuns in Barcelona during the social revolution following the July 18, 1936 uprising through multiple approaches: an unpublished war diary by the writer Aurora Bertrana, the treatment given to the facts by the communist and anarchist press of the time, and especially the look projected by film director Mateo Santos with his Reportaje del movimiento revolucionario en Barcelona, whose appropriation by Franco’s propaganda (with the help of National Socialist Germany) would turn these images into a powerful instrument against republican Spain.
