Abstract

This essay analyzes the politics of sanctity of the Society of Jesus in Viceregal Peru (17th Century) through the process of beatification of the Spanish Father Diego Martínez (1627-34). An unfinished process that has been filed in the Jesuit archives for centuries and was never introduced in the Sacred Congregation of Rites, in the Vatican.
