Abstract


Anticlericalism is a characteristic phenomenon, although not exclusive, of contemporanean History. This article analyses the causes and manifestations of popular anticlericalism during the two-year period 1834-1835, period of rupture and implantation of the liberal revolution in Spain. It takes into account not only the assessments made by the newspapers and some politicians of the time about the persecutions given by the different historiografic schools.
