El coleccionismo particular en el siglo XVII: los cuadros y los libros del doctor Antonio de Riaño y Viedma, cura de la iglesia parroquial de San Miguel, Madrid (1659)

This article studies the inventories of pictures and books of a seventeenth-century parish priest, doctor Antonio Riaño y Viedma, who died during the summer of 1659. Doctor Riaño, the first parish priest of the newly rebuilt Church of Saint Michael in Madrid, managed to put together an extensive and interesting art collection of over 300 paintings, as well as having a library of some 146 books. By means of a detailed examination of these collections it is hoped to arrive at a better understanding of the cultural world (the reading habits and artistic taste) of a priest of the first half of the seventeenth century in Spain.
