After the entrance of the Italians in Rome, the Holy See was released of the weight of the territorial sovereignty. It could participate then in the international order. Took part in numerous projects of mediation, arbitration and «bons offices» between different countries during the reign of the Pope Leo XIII (1878-1903). The Pope had very great prestige in the land of the international pacification because his moral authority. The Caribbean and Latin America were privileged fields of their performance. The arbitration activity continued during the times of Pío X and Benedict XV until the I World War.
