Third Lay Order of St Francis represents one important example of the Catholic Reform effects in the lay world. After a phase of decline for 16 century, this movement experienced a glorious period in the Castile of 17* century. Kings, nobles or, even, peasants dressed its habit, one of them for live a more intense religiosity, another for benefit of its numerous privileges. Across the normative texts of the Order and the documentation of several congregations of the Crown of Castile, we have tried to answer some of the doubts that this movement generates: its juridical status in the Catholic Church or its social, welfare and religious dimensions.
